Choices in waterproof clothing
We don't have to tell you that waterproof clothing is indispensable in winter. And it is no secret that the Dutch climate actually requires water-resistant promotional and work clothing all year round. But what about that water resistance and breathability?

Protech
Macseis combines TPU films in three layers to create a waterproof, breathable and comfortable fabric. The durable fabrics are soft, smooth and extremely elastic, making them very suitable for sports activities and other times when you move. Macseis always strives for the highest quality in TPU films. For example with the development of a multi-stretch fabric. This fabric has breathability of 5,000 gr/m2/24H. All bonded fabrics are softened using the environmentally friendly Soft Grip.

Multi-stretch
All bonded Macseis fabrics are designed and developed with a multi-stretch material, with two or four stretch levels. The integrated spandex has a high density and thus keeps its shape. In some bonded and unbonded fabrics multi-stretch-knit is included: this pattern makes the fabric extremely elastic after finishing.

It takes a lot of research to find out which quality best suits which (watertight) need. Let's start at the beginning: softshell. Softshell clothing offers warmth and comfort and is water-repellent. It breathes, making this type of material very suitable for walking, working outside or for example to wear during winter sports. Three values stand out in the descriptions:

  • TPU;
  • Water resistance;
  • Breathable properties.

TPU
TPU stands for Thermoplastic Polyurethane and is actually a plastic layer that ensures that clothing is windproof and water-repellent. The number of millimeters displayed determines how water resistant the clothing really is.

Values of water resistance
Numbers in millimeters are displayed behind "wind and water resistant" in the Macseis product features. These are indications of water resistance. With a water column - a pipe with a diameter of about 2.5 centimeters - water is poured into the material. It is then checked to what level the water will reach before it starts to leak. With a rating of, for example, 20,000 mm, the material only lets water through after a load of twenty meters of water. We list the values for you:

Breathable properties
Different values are also used for the degree to which the clothing breathes. The breathability indicates how many grams of water vapor the fabric can handle per 1m² of fabric in 24 hours without the wearer getting wet. A performance indicator can be attached to the value:

  • << 4,000 gr/m²/24H: low.
  • 4,000 - 8,000 gr/m²/24H: moderate.
  • >> 9,000 gr/m²/24H: high.

Why choose the Macseis softshell?
The Macseis softshell is completely waterproof in the rain and can withstand many forms of pressure before water gets through, while at the same time having high breathability. On winter sports and during outdoor activities there is therefore little chance of a wet suit in the Macseis softshell.

Another tip for winter sports
Snow does not wet immediately, but the crystals do stick. So even on winter sports, high-quality waterproofing is needed to enjoy skiing or snowboarding without getting cold and wet!
