European production: a sustainable choice
More and more consumers and businesses are making conscious choices about where their clothing comes from. And rightly so. Because where a product is made says a lot about its impact on people and the environment.
Much of Europe’s textiles are produced in Portugal, a country with a long and respected tradition in the textile industry. Portuguese factories operate in accordance with strict European environmental and labour standards, which means that workers are treated fairly and that raw materials, water and energy are used responsibly. This is a significant difference compared to production outside Europe, where compliance with these standards is by no means always guaranteed. Portugal may not be the largest textile-producing country – alongside Germany and Italy – but it is certainly one of the most respected for quality, sustainability and craftsmanship. This makes clothing from Portugal a conscious, high-quality choice.
Furthermore, transport plays a major role in a garment’s carbon footprint. Because our jumpers are produced in Europe, they travel a much shorter distance before reaching the supplier. Fewer kilometres means fewer emissions.
Lemon & Soda’s sweaters are made in Portugal. They are also crafted from a carefully selected blend of cotton and polyester. The cotton ensures a natural, comfortable feel, whilst the polyester helps the jumper retain its shape and extends its lifespan. A jumper that lasts a long time doesn’t need replacing as often; this is another step towards sustainability.
Choosing European-made clothing is a small step that makes a big difference — for the environment, for the people behind the product, and for a fairer fashion industry.
